A Poem by Peter
In the beginning he was filled with light
It surrounds him like a warm embrace
The freedom of mobility and the ease of laughter
People shine on him like the sun illuminates the earth
Brisk walks across the fields as the leaves fall
Shared with the two women in his life
Her cheeky giggles ring in his ears
Their dimpled smiles are fixed in his memory
Illness rears its’ ugly head as problems unfold
The ticker isn’t ticking right like clock out of sync
Anxiety starts to cloud over that perfect day
As it seems light might not have control
Then she leaves, not out of choice but forcibly taken
Ripped away, strands of his heart drift off
Darkness envelops him as his source disappears
Wayward emotions leave him tangled and struggling
Luckily the younger remains, keeping his spirit afloat
But his mobility diminishes as his joints fail
That simple motion which was carefree is now a struggle
Dragging his body like a ball and chain
As the moon circles the earth and the rain falls
His thoughts stray again to his lost love
What did she leave him with after such a time
Memories fade and photographs are lost but hope stands strong
Hope for warmth, company and comfort
Hope that his daughter will shine for him
Hope for the return of freedom and everlasting light
Hope for a reunion that is worth a thousand years of emptiness
